Electricity prices likely to rise under fuel adjustment

02 June, 2026 17:47

Electricity prices in Pakistan are expected to increase under the monthly fuel adjustment mechanism.

During a hearing at NEPRA on the April fuel adjustment request, a proposal was presented to raise electricity prices by Rs1.73 per unit, which may affect consumers across the country.

Officials from the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) said that regional conflict conditions in April also impacted the energy sector and created operational challenges.

They added that imported LNG was not available during that period. However, LNG contracts and spot shipments were received in May, after which LNG-based power plants were brought back into operation.

CPPA officials also informed NEPRA that electricity consumption decreased in all sectors except the industrial sector.

They further stated that a detailed plan for LNG supply over the next two months has been prepared to ensure stable electricity generation and fuel availability.

According to officials, consumers are not expected to face major increases in monthly fuel adjustments for May, June, and July due to improved planning of fuel and power supply.
