Govt announces tariff relief for key sectors under new policy
ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to provide tariff relief to the pharmaceutical, logistics, and construction sectors under the National Tariff Policy (NTP) 2025-30. The move aims to boost investment, trade, and industrial growth in the country.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the relevant authorities to ensure effective implementation of the policy and to modernize tariff institutions to improve the business environment.
Chairing a high-level meeting on economic growth and tariff policy implementation, the prime minister said export-led growth remains the government’s top priority.
Officials briefed the meeting that tariffs across different sectors will be gradually reduced to improve Pakistan’s export competitiveness.
Under the plan, duties on reefer containers and semi-trailers will be removed to support the logistics sector and strengthen supply chains.
Customs duties on machinery and specialized vehicles will also be reduced to promote growth in the construction industry.
In a major relief for the pharmaceutical sector, duties on key raw materials—especially those used in cancer medicines—will be eliminated to support local production and improve access to essential drugs.
The prime minister said tariff reforms and institutional improvements are essential for boosting exports, attracting investment, and ensuring long-term economic stability.
