Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp Down in Global Outage Today

Meta-owned platforms experienced a massive, unexpected outage on Friday, June 12, 2026, leaving millions of users worldwide unable to access Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. The global disruption began suddenly, with tracking monitors logging a massive spike in outage reports within minutes.

Users across the US, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East reported sudden logouts, blank feeds, and repeated error messages. The disruption appeared to affect Facebook’s main website, its mobile app, Messenger, and parts of Instagram’s feed and login systems.

For many users, the issue manifested as a forced termination of active sessions, abruptly logging them out of the apps. Attempting to log back in often triggered an “unexpected error occurred” message or resulted in a blank screen. Instagram users faced loading issues, with the app and website displaying “Something went wrong” messages or failing to refresh feeds. WhatsApp users experienced intermittent connectivity problems, with some unable to send or receive messages normally.

Because the issue appears to be server-side, switching devices or using a VPN does not restore access.

Outage tracking service StatusGator detected the disruption even though it had not been officially acknowledged, with nearly 15,000 user-submitted reports of outages recorded in the past 24 hours.

As of the latest reports, Meta had not issued an official statement regarding the cause of the disruption or a timeline for full restoration. However, historically, global outages of this scale have been resolved within one to three hours, with engineering teams typically deploying fixes in waves so that some regions regain access sooner than others.

Users have been advised to verify outage status through tracking sites like DownDetector and remain cautious of scams while waiting for services to be restored.
