US and Iran Reach Peace Deal, Official Signing Ceremony Scheduled for June 19: PM Shehbaz

15 June, 2026 13:00

The United States and Iran have arrived at a peace agreement, with both nations declaring the immediate and permanent halt of all military operations, including those in Lebanon.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif shared the news on social media platform X, stating: “Following intensive talks, we are pleased to announce that the Peace Deal between the United States of America and Islamic Republic of Iran has been REACHED”.

He added that the formal signing ceremony is scheduled to take place in Switzerland on Friday, 19 June.

“We would like to thank the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran for their commitment to finding a diplomatic solution to the conflict. We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to our brothers in this mediation effort, the great leadership of State of Qatar, for their support in reaching this agreement. I would also especially thank the visionary leadership of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Republic of Türkiye for their immense contributions in this regard,” he wrote.

PM Shehbaz further noted that with the deal finalized, mediators will hold a series of meetings throughout the week, laying the groundwork for technical-level talks ahead of the official signing.

US President Donald Trump later confirmed the development as well, saying: “The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all! I hereby fully authorize the toll free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and, simultaneously herewith, authorize the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade. Ships of the world, start your engines. Let the oil flow!”

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Kazem Gharibabadi, told a television channel that the agreement had brought an immediate halt to the conflict between the two countries.

He added that representatives from both sides are expected to hold talks within the next two months in pursuit of a lasting settlement.

However, earlier the same day, Tehran had vowed to retaliate against an Israeli strike on the outskirts of Beirut, raising fears that the newly reached understanding could come under strain before further negotiations take place.
