US military targets another Caribbean vessel, leaving two dead

22 June, 2026 11:42

The US military says it carried out an attack on a vessel in the Caribbean Sea, killing two people on board.

In a statement shared on X, the military said intelligence showed the boat was moving along known drug-trafficking routes and was involved in narcotics operations.

Officials also claimed the people on board were linked to designated terrorist organizations, but they did not name any group.

According to US Southern Command, six male survivors were rescued after the strike. The US Coast Guard has been informed and is now handling search-and-rescue efforts.

The military said no US personnel were injured during the operation.

Earlier, at the end of last month, US forces also killed three people in a similar strike on a boat in the eastern Pacific Ocean, saying it was involved in drug trafficking.

These actions show a shift from the US’s usual approach, where the Coast Guard and law enforcement agencies typically handle such maritime operations instead of the military.

The Trump administration has defended these strikes, calling the targets “narco-terrorists.” However, human rights groups have criticized them as “extrajudicial killings.”

Overall, the death toll from these ongoing US operations in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific has now reached at least 204 people.
