Muharram 2026: Karachi announces road closures, timings, and alternate routes
KARACHI: The Karachi traffic police have issued a detailed traffic plan for Muharram 8, 9, and 10. Strict traffic restrictions will be applied on MA Jinnah Road and other major roads during central processions, while alternative routes have been arranged for commuters.

Muharram 8 Traffic Plan
The main procession will start from Nishtar Park and pass through MA Jinnah Road before ending at Imambargah Hussainia Iranian.
MA Jinnah Road will remain closed from Guru Mandir to Tower for security reasons.
Alternative routes include:
- Traffic from Nazimabad: via Lasbela Chowk, Nishtar Road, and Garden
- Traffic from Liaquatabad: via Teen Hatti, Lasbela, and Martin Road (Central Jail Road)
- Traffic from Hassan Square: via Kashmir Road and Shahrah-e-Qaideen toward PIB Colony
Muharram 9 Restrictions
Partial traffic closures will be in place on the procession route.
- Guru Mandir Chowk: closed from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
- Jamshed Road, Guru Mandir, and Bahadur Yar Jung Road: closed from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
- Traffic from Shahrah-e-Faisal will be diverted to Kashmir Road and other routes
Muharram 10 (Main Procession Day)
The strictest traffic plan will be implemented on the 10th of Muharram.
MA Jinnah Road from Guru Mandir to Tower will be completely closed. Only vehicles with official procession stickers will be allowed.
Heavy traffic will be diverted at Liaquatabad No. 10, Nazimabad No. 2, Hub River Road, and Sher Shah toward Mauripur. Vehicles coming from the National Highway will be routed through Shahrah-e-Faisal, Stadium Road, and Hassan Square.
Routes for Procession Participants
Special entry routes have been arranged:
- From Nazimabad via Lasbela and Guru Mandir
- From Liaquatabad via Teen Hatti, Jahangir Road, and Guru Mandir
- From Gulistan-e-Johar and Gulshan-e-Iqbal via University Road and Kashmir Road
Traffic Police Warning
Traffic police said no vehicles will be allowed on the main procession route after Guru Mandir. Any violation will be immediately redirected to alternate routes.
