Balochistan Hit by Second Earthquake in One Day: 5.1 Magnitude Tremor Near Kohlu at 17km Depth, No Casualties Reported

26 June, 2026 19:05

Strong earthquake tremors were felt across several areas of Balochistan on Friday, causing alarm among residents who rushed out of their homes and buildings as a precautionary measure.

The Seismological Center confirmed that the earthquake registered a magnitude of 5.1, with tremors reported in Zhob, Barkhan, Rakhni, Kohlu, and surrounding districts. The epicenter was located 60 kilometers northeast of Kohlu, and the quake struck at a depth of 17 kilometers beneath the surface, according to the Seismological Center.

Residents across the affected areas described feeling the ground shake noticeably, prompting widespread concern. However, no immediate reports of casualties or significant structural damage were received following the tremor. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation and are expected to assess any possible impact in the coming hours.

The quake comes just hours after a separate earthquake earlier the same day also jolted the region around Kohlu. That earlier seismic event measured a magnitude of 5.0 and struck at a depth of 18 kilometers, with its epicenter recorded 65 kilometers northeast of Kohlu. Tremors from that quake similarly prompted residents to evacuate their homes as a precaution.

The back-to-back earthquakes within a single day have heightened concern among local communities in the region. Balochistan sits on active tectonic fault lines, making it one of Pakistan’s most seismically active provinces. No tsunami warning has been issued in connection with either event.
