Pre-Monsoon Rains Expected Across Parts of Pakistan Until July 3
ISLAMABAD – Intermittent pre-monsoon rainfall is expected across several parts of the country from today until July 3, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
NDMA said, the mixture of extreme heat and predictable rainfall could speed up glacier melting in the northern regions. This may reason a unexpected rise in water levels in rivers and streams across Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir
It also alerted that at-risk areas of glacial lake outburst floods, flash floods and landslides.
The expert has advised people who lives there and travelers to these northern areas, such as Hunza, Skardu, Chitral and Swat, to keep on cautious.
The authority advised residents and travelers stay away from unnecessary movement near rivers, streams, glacial lakes and riverbanks.
For now, provincial disaster management authorities have been told to remain alert and respond quickly to any emergency.
