Pink Taxi Service Announced in Sindh Following Scooty Initiative

KARACHI: The Sindh government plans to introduce a Pink Taxi Scheme for women as part of its electric vehicle transport program, according to Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon.

Speaking the Sindh Assembly, he said the government is directing on actions to empower women. He said that Pink Taxi Scheme will follow the launch of the Pink Scooter initiative.

He stated that traffic police will take action if men are caught using scooters meant for women. He said after complaints of misuse, action is being taken against it.

Memon said that the upcoming Pink Taxi scheme will feature women-only taxis, and further details will be announced later.

While speaking on transport projects, He noted that Sindh was the first province to bring in electric buses under its transport initiatives. He added that the Pink Scooter scheme initially had 150 licensed women, and around 25,000 women have now applied.

He said all eligible women will be provided scooters, even if they are 100,000 in number.

Memon also claimed that the Sindh Revenue Board has shown strong tax growth, with 24 percent increase compared to 10 percent by the Federal Board of Revenue.
