Venezuela Earthquakes Leave Over 1,700 Dead as Rescue Efforts Continue

The scale of destruction following twin earthquakes in Venezuela continues to grow, with authorities confirming that the death toll has risen to at least 1,719. The quakes have also left 5,034 people injured, as rescue operations continue across heavily affected regions.
Officials said more than 50,000 people remain missing or unaccounted for as emergency teams search through the rubble of thousands of collapsed and damaged buildings. Hope of finding survivors is fading as recovery efforts shift increasingly toward clearing debris and assisting displaced communities.
According to the United States Geological Survey, the earthquakes measured magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5 and struck less than 40 seconds apart. The powerful back-to-back shocks caused widespread infrastructure damage, triggering one of the country’s worst natural disasters in recent history.
