Field Marshal Asim Munir to Visit Tehran as Pakistan Steps Up Regional Peace Efforts

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei has announced that Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir, will travel to Tehran on Monday at the head of an official delegation. Baghaei said the visit is aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation between Iran and Pakistan and forms part of Islamabad’s continued efforts to promote regional peace and security.
During the visit, Munir is expected to meet and hold talks with senior Iranian officials. The announcement came a day after Munir spoke by telephone with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, with the two discussing the latest regional developments and ways to enhance peace, stability and security in West Asia.
Pakistan has played a mediating role in efforts to ease tensions between Iran and the United States, including brokering a June 17 Memorandum of Understanding calling for an end to hostilities and further negotiations. Islamabad had also played a role in securing an April 8 ceasefire that ended the 40-day US-Israeli military campaign against Iran, while Tehran has continued to emphasize diplomatic efforts to strengthen regional stability.
