Intelligence Report Claims Protest Movement in AJK Evolved into Foreign-Backed Campaign

Islamabad: An intelligence report submitted to the government has claimed that the banned Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee, which initially emerged as a protest movement against high electricity tariffs and flour prices in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), gradually transformed into a campaign aimed at undermining Pakistan’s stance on Kashmir and targeting state institutions. According to the report, the movement expanded beyond its original socio-economic demands and took on a political dimension.
The report further alleges that foreign elements, including hostile intelligence agencies, provided financial, media, and organizational support to the movement through networks based in the United Kingdom and Europe. It claims the government possesses what it describes as “credible evidence” indicating external backing for the campaign.
According to the report, some of the movement’s demands included abolishing the 12 legislative assembly seats reserved for refugees in AJK and removing the requirement for candidates to take an oath supporting accession to Pakistan. The report reflects the government’s claims, while the response of the individuals or groups named in these allegations was not included.
