Pakistan, Azerbaijan Taking Steps to Increase Bilateral Trade: Pakistani Ambassador

BAKU, ISLAMABAD : Pakistan’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Qasim Mohiuddin, has said that tariff concessions have been granted on several products under the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, while the Transit Trade Agreement (TTA) has also contributed significantly to increasing trade between the two brotherly countries.

In an interview with Azerbaijan’s state news agency , the ambassador said efforts were underway to harmonize customs laws and regulations and improve cooperation mechanisms between commercial banks to facilitate more efficient and timely trade.

He said that despite excellent political relations between the two countries, bilateral trade had yet to reach its desired level. However, efforts were being made to bring the business communities of Pakistan and Azerbaijan closer.

Qasim Mohiuddin said implementation of the two agreements had accelerated business-to-business (B2B) contacts. Delegations from leading Pakistani chambers of commerce and business organizations were regularly visiting Baku to explore opportunities with their Azerbaijani counterparts.

Similarly, prominent Azerbaijani businessmen were visiting Pakistan, helping both countries’ private sectors identify concrete business opportunities and establish sustainable trade partnerships.

The ambassador said the promotion of bilateral trade was among the top priorities of the leadership of both countries and was accorded special importance during meetings of the Intergovernmental Commission.

He emphasized that Pakistan and Azerbaijan shared the objective of leveraging their strong political ties to develop concrete, practical and sustainable economic cooperation.
