Former AJK Minister Taqdees Gilani Quits PPP Ahead of Elections

02 July, 2026 17:13

Former Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) minister Taqdees Gilani has resigned from the basic membership of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), delivering another political setback to the party ahead of the upcoming AJK elections. Gilani announced his resignation, citing unfulfilled commitments and dissatisfaction with the party leadership.

In his statement, Gilani said the promises made to him had not been honored and alleged that he had been subjected to political victimization within the party. He said his decision to leave the PPP was based on principles and made in the interest of party workers.

Meanwhile, political sources indicate that Gilani is likely to join the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) in Islamabad. While an official announcement has yet to be made, the anticipated move is expected to influence the political landscape ahead of the AJK polls.
