Over 300 Children Killed or Injured in Sudan Amid Ongoing Conflict says UN Report

KHARTOUM: The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has reported that more than 300 children have been killed or injured in Sudan over the past six months as fighting continues to intensify across several regions of the country.
In a statement released on Monday, UNICEF said that approximately 60% of child casualties were caused by drone strikes, with the conflict largely concentrated in Kordofan, Darfur, and Blue Nile State. The agency warned that attacks on civilian infrastructure, including schools, markets, fuel facilities, and water stations, have placed hundreds of thousands of civilians at risk.
UNICEF added that more than 500,000 people are facing worsening humanitarian conditions, with prolonged violence and displacement continuing to affect children most severely. “Children are being caught in a relentless cycle of violence, displacement and deprivation,” said UNICEF representative for Sudan Sheldon Yett.
