President Pezeshkian to Attend Ayatollah Khamenei Funeral Ceremonies in Iraq

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is scheduled to travel to Iraq on Tuesday to attend funeral ceremonies for the Martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, which are set to take place in the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala on Wednesday. The visit comes as memorial events and funeral ceremonies continue in Iran following Khamenei’s death.

Funeral processions began early Monday, with large crowds gathering to accompany the coffins of Martyred Ayatollah Khamenei and several members of his family, including Sayyedeh Boshra Hosseini Khamenei, Mesbah al-Hoda Baqeri, Zahra Haddad Adel, and Zahra Mohammadi Golpayegani. On Tuesday, the funeral convoy proceeded toward Tehran’s Azadi Square, where mourners continued to pay their respects.

Thousands of people dressed in black lined the streets of the capital as the procession moved through Tehran. Participants observed mourning rituals and chanted slogans during the ceremony, which was attended by large crowds from across the country.
