Iran Rejects UAE-Backed Proposal at IMO Over Strait of Hormuz Dispute

Iran has rejected a proposal submitted by the United Arab Emirates and other countries to the Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) regarding the Strait of Hormuz, calling the move politically motivated and lacking legal basis. Tehran made the objections in an official document submitted to the IMO Council on Tuesday.

Iran said the proposal contains what it described as selective allegations and unfairly places responsibility on Iran while ignoring what it called the root causes of instability in the Persian Gulf, the Sea of Oman, and the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Iran’s submission, current threats to maritime security, shipping, seafarers, environmental protection, and the continuity of maritime transport are linked to what Tehran described as military aggression by the United States and Israel.
