Amal Movement Lawmaker Criticizes Lebanese Government Over Israel Talks

A member of Lebanon’s Amal Movement has criticized the Beirut government over what he described as “free concessions” to Israel during direct negotiations, calling for the cancellation of the US-sponsored framework agreement signed on June 26. Speaking on Thursday, Lebanese lawmaker Hani Kobeissy argued that the government should adopt a firmer stance toward Israel instead of making concessions.

Kobeissy claimed that Israeli military operations in southern Lebanon, while described by Israel as targeting Hezbollah fighters, have also struck civilians, including women, children, Lebanese Army personnel, and government institutions. He accused Israel of continuing to commit serious violations against Lebanon and urged political leaders to unite in confronting what he called ongoing aggression.

The legislator further alleged that Israel seeks to create divisions within Lebanese society, weaken state institutions, and expand its influence in the country. His remarks reflect the position of the Amal Movement and come amid continued tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border. Israel has consistently said its military operations are aimed at addressing security threats posed by Hezbollah.
