Iran Rejects IAEA Resolution as Illegal, Warns of NPT Withdrawals

TEHRAN: Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Major General Mohsen Rezaei has declared the latest resolution adopted by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors against Iran illegal and politically motivated.

In a statement posted on X, Rezaei described the resolution as lacking a technical basis and warned that the IAEA’s current approach could push more countries toward withdrawing from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

He said the resolution clearly reflected what Tehran considers pressure from the United States and Israel, adding that Iran would not accept the decision.

Rezaei argued that the IAEA should operate on technical and impartial grounds rather than becoming subject to political pressure.

He warned that continued political and disruptive actions by the agency could undermine confidence in the international nuclear non-proliferation framework.

According to the Iranian official, such conduct could encourage other countries to reconsider their participation in the NPT.

Rezaei said Iran rejects the latest resolution and would not allow political pressure to determine the future of its nuclear programme.

He maintained that Iran’s nuclear activities should be addressed through technical assessments, international law and established diplomatic mechanisms rather than what he described as politically driven resolutions.

The remarks come amid heightened tensions over Iran’s nuclear programme and growing disagreement between Tehran and Western governments over the role of the IAEA.

Iran has repeatedly accused Western powers of politicising international nuclear institutions, while the United States and its allies have continued to press Tehran over its nuclear activities.
