Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Passes Resolution Seeking Interim Provincial Status

The Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly has unanimously passed a resolution calling for the region to be granted interim provincial status and urging the federal government to provide the people of Gilgit-Baltistan with rights equal to those enjoyed by citizens of Pakistan’s other provinces.

In a separate unanimous resolution, the assembly condemned remarks attributed to Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman regarding the country’s martyrs. The resolution stated that the nation’s martyrs are heroes who deserve the respect of every Pakistani and reaffirmed the sacrifices made by officers and soldiers of Pakistan’s armed forces in the fight against terrorism.

The resolution said the sacrifices of the martyrs had played a vital role in safeguarding Pakistan’s defense and maintaining peace. It was tabled by Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party lawmaker Muhammad Ali and received unanimous support from all members of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly.
