NDMA Warns of River and Urban Flooding Through July 23

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather advisory, warning of possible river flooding, flash floods and urban flooding in different parts of Pakistan from July 19 to July 23.

The NDMA said a strong monsoon system and a westerly weather disturbance are expected to bring heavy rainfall from July 20 to July 23, especially in Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and upper Punjab.

The authority warned that heavy rain could cause flash floods in mountainous areas and raise water levels in rivers and streams. People living near rivers, streams and hillsides have been advised to stay alert and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall.

The NDMA also said water levels may rise in the Chenab River at Marala and the upper Jhelum River near Mangla, increasing the risk of flooding in those areas.

Major cities and low-lying areas may also face urban flooding as heavy rain could overwhelm drainage systems, causing waterlogging and traffic problems.

The NDMA has directed rescue agencies and local administrations to stay on high alert and keep emergency teams and equipment ready.

People have been advised to follow official weather updates, listen to local authorities and take safety precautions until the heavy rain spell ends.
