United Council of Madaris Distances Itself from Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s Remarks

The United Council of Madaris Pakistan has distanced itself from recent statements made by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, saying his views represent only his party’s political position and not that of religious seminaries or the council.

In a statement, the council’s spokesperson, Dr. Mir Muhammad Asif Akbar Qadri, said the country’s martyrs and war veterans are national heroes whose sacrifices are a source of pride. He added that any negative narrative against the martyrs was unacceptable and stressed that religious seminaries, scholars, and students have no connection with anti-state activities or campaigns against national institutions.

The council also said it was unfair to associate madaris, mosques, and religious scholars with political campaigns, emphasizing that religious seminaries have always served as centers for safeguarding Pakistan’s ideological, intellectual, and geographical frontiers. It reaffirmed its respect for the Pakistan Armed Forces, martyrs, and veterans, and declared that it does not support any campaign or statement against them.
