Punjab Imposes Section 144, Bans Swimming and Boating Amid Monsoon Rains
The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province for 60 days as heavy monsoon rains continue to create dangerous conditions.
According to a notification issued by the Punjab Home Department, bathing in rainwater collected on streets, roads, open spaces and other public places has been banned.
The order also prohibits swimming in dams, rivers, canals, ponds and lakes. Unauthorised boating in these water bodies and distributaries has also been banned.
The Home Department said the restrictions were imposed to protect human lives during the ongoing monsoon season. Heavy rainfall has caused water to collect in low-lying areas, while water levels in rivers and other water bodies have also increased.
Authorities warned that swimming, boating or bathing in floodwater can be extremely dangerous, especially for children and young people.
The Punjab Home Secretary has directed district administrations and law enforcement agencies to strictly enforce the order. Authorities have also been asked to raise public awareness about the restrictions and the dangers of entering flooded areas and swollen water bodies.
