Canadian Security Agencies Crack Down on Indian Criminal Groups Worldwide

Indian criminal groups are reportedly expanding their activities around the world, prompting Canadian security agencies to take action against suspected criminal networks.

According to the Indian broadcaster NDTV, several truck drivers of Indian origin were arrested in Canada during an operation against a cross-border smuggling network.

Canadian authorities reportedly seized 1.7 tonnes of illegal drugs worth $139 million from the suspects. The action was carried out under Canada’s “Project Bay” as part of efforts to stop illegal drug trafficking.

The investigation also reportedly uncovered an illegal commercial transport network linked to individuals of Indian origin.

Canadian expert Wade Desmond said that Indian-origin groups have become a major criminal organisation involved in serious crimes in different parts of the world.

The arrests and investigations in Canada and other countries have raised concerns about the growing international reach of Indian criminal networks and the effectiveness of the Indian government’s policies in dealing with such groups.
