Pro-Khalistan Slogans Raised During US Ambassador’s Golden Temple Visit

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor visited the Golden Temple in Amritsar on September 28 as part of a 28-member American delegation. He met Sikh religious leaders, including SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami and Acting Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj.

During the visit, a brief demonstration took place outside the Golden Temple’s main entrance. Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) acting president Emaan Singh Mann and party workers raised slogans including “Khalistan Zindabad” and “God Bless America.” Security personnel later managed the crowd.

Gor was welcomed by Sikh religious leaders inside the shrine, where discussions included issues concerning the Sikh community in the United States. The ambassador also visited the Partition Museum during his Amritsar trip.

The visit was Gor’s second trip to the Golden Temple after about 15 years. He described his return to the shrine as a memorable experience.
