Iran, Iraq Agree to Strengthen Border Security Ahead of Arbaeen Pilgrimage

Iranian and Iraqi border security officials have agreed to enhance joint border security and facilitate the smooth movement of pilgrims during the upcoming Arbaeen pilgrimage. The agreement was reached during a joint border meeting in Khanaqin attended by Kiyasat Sepehri and Abd al-Sada Niroz Yassin, where both sides reviewed border infrastructure and coordination measures for the annual religious event.

During the meeting, Brigadier General Sepehri stressed the importance of maintaining security along the shared border through tighter border discipline, improved intelligence sharing, monitoring of micro air vehicles (MAVs), and oversight of construction activities in border areas. He also called for stronger bilateral cooperation to combat smuggling, prevent terrorist infiltration, and enhance coordination between Iranian and Iraqi border forces.

Major General Niroz Yassin emphasized the need to further strengthen friendly relations and address border-related issues through continued cooperation. At the conclusion of the meeting, the two sides signed a memorandum of cooperation aimed at improving border security coordination and ensuring the safe and orderly passage of Arbaeen pilgrims between Iran and Iraq.
