Sindh Govt Announces Public Holiday on August 4
The Sindh School Education Department has announced that all public and private educational institutions across the province will remain closed on August 4, 2026, due to the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA).
According to an official notification, government and private schools will observe a holiday on 20th Safar 1448 AH, which falls on Tuesday, August 4.
The notification applies to all public and private educational institutions working under the School Education & Literacy Department across Sindh.
“In pursuance of the decision taken in the meeting of the Steering Committee held on 12-02-2026, all public and private educational institutions working under the administrative control of the School Education & Literacy Department, Government of Sindh, shall remain closed on 4th August, 2026 on account of Chehlum (20th Safar 1448 AH),” the notification said.
Meanwhile, the Sindh Home Department has imposed a province-wide ban on pillion riding during Chehlum.
The Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and the martyrs of Karbala is observed every year on the 20th of Safar-ul-Muzaffar. It marks the end of the 40-day mourning period following their martyrdom in the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD.
Mourning processions featuring Alam, Tazia and Zuljinah will be held in different cities across Sindh.
The Home Department has also extended Section 144 across the province for another month, starting August 1. Under the restrictions, wall chalking, rallies, demonstrations and the public display of weapons will remain banned across Sindh.
