Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui Reiterates Call for New Administrative Units

01 August, 2026 16:34

Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui reiterated the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) demand for the creation of new administrative units, saying Pakistan needs additional provinces to improve governance and public service delivery. Speaking in Karachi, he said the MQM was the first political party to advocate for new provinces, adding that provincial boundaries are not immutable and had changed before the One Unit system. He stressed that Pakistan is the common homeland of all citizens and that questioning the country’s national borders amounts to disloyalty.

Siddiqui said the existing democratic system has little value if it fails to improve the lives of ordinary citizens. He claimed Pakistan’s international standing had risen following what he described as the “Battle for Truth” and credited the country with playing a key role in preventing conflict in the region. He also called for accountability of those he accused of turning Pakistan into a marketplace for vested interests, saying corruption has severely affected the country’s progress.

Meanwhile, MQM-P leader Farooq Sattar welcomed Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s recent remarks on administrative reforms, describing them as a reflection of the MQM’s longstanding struggle. Sattar said Pakistan needs new administrative units and greater devolution of powers to the grassroots level to address public issues effectively. He added that people from different walks of life had welcomed the proposal and said the MQM also supports the Chamber of Commerce’s economic summit and its reform agenda.
