National Assembly Session Rescheduled to August 17, Key Legislation on Agenda

The government has decided to convene the next session of the National Assembly on August 17, according to parliamentary sources. The session was originally scheduled for August 7, but the timetable was revised due to the Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections. The upcoming sitting is expected to deliberate on key national issues and take up important legislative business.

Ahead of the session, three senior government leaders held a high-level meeting at Parliament House to discuss the parliamentary agenda. According to sources, the meeting was chaired by Defence Minister and Parliamentary Leader Khawaja Asif and attended by Federal Ministers Azam Nazeer Tarar and Tariq Fazal Chaudhry. Participants reviewed proposed legislation and held detailed consultations on matters related to the government’s legislative priorities.

Sources said the meeting also examined the situation arising from the delay in issuing the notification on the Judicial Commission’s recommendations for judicial appointments. The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leadership discussed the party’s parliamentary strategy and the legislative roadmap for the upcoming National Assembly session.

The participants also reviewed recent political tensions with coalition partner the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and discussed the government’s strategy for dealing with possible opposition protests and other political developments. Sources said consultations focused on finalizing the government’s parliamentary approach ahead of the August 17 session.
