Yemen Rejects UN Security Council Condemnation, Accuses Saudi Arabia of Buying Support

Yemen’s Foreign Ministry has strongly rejected the UN Security Council’s condemnation of Yemeni Armed Forces’ retaliatory missile attacks against Saudi Arabia and commercial vessels, accusing Riyadh of spending large sums to secure favorable international statements. In a statement, the ministry said the Security Council, despite being tasked with protecting human rights and upholding justice, had itself violated the principles and charters it claims to defend.

The ministry said the Council’s calls to protect Yemen’s sovereignty and independence were contradictory while it simultaneously adopted measures that, according to Sanaa, undermined Yemen’s right to self-determination. It questioned whether the Council was aware of what it described as continued Saudi violations of Yemeni airspace since March 26, 2015, including a reported Saudi airstrike on a runway at Sana’a International Airport on July 13, 2026.

The Yemeni Foreign Ministry further argued that if the Security Council genuinely sought to promote international peace and security, its permanent members would not include countries it described as warmongers and occupying powers. It also criticized the Council’s failure to enforce resolutions concerning Israeli actions against Palestinians since 1948. The ministry said Saudi Arabia’s alleged denial of Yemeni rights was consistent with what it described as Riyadh’s broader history of suppressing Arab and Muslim peoples and disregarding their identities and heritage.
