Iran Warns US Warships Could Face Attacks in Indian Ocean

TEHRAN: Iran’s IRGC Navy has threatened to target US warships, including those operating in the Indian Ocean, should Washington launch renewed military action against Tehran.

The IRGC Navy’s deputy for political affairs, Ali Mohammadi, questioned Trump’s claims on the Strait of Hormuz, and questioned the absence of US vessels from the waterway.

“If Trump considers the Strait of Hormuz his strait, then why aren’t his ships and vessels here?” Mohammadi said, according to Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency.

Mohammadi warned that any renewed conflict could see Iranian forces target US naval vessels and destroyers. According to him, the threat would spread out beyond the Gulf to US naval vessels positioned in the Indian Ocean.

The comments come amid ongoing strains between Tehran and Washington over the Strait of Hormuz, a major global shipping way. Latest statements from Iranian officials have also cautioned that US forces impending the waterway could face military action.

The latest warning adds to tensions surrounding the possibility of renewed military confrontation between Iran and the United States, with both sides continuing to issue warnings over maritime operations and the Strait of Hormuz.
