MQM Leaders Renew Call for New Provinces and Administrative Units

MQM-Pakistan Chairman Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui has called for the creation of new provinces across Pakistan, saying the demand is not merely an MQM agenda but a constitutional requirement. He argued that the existing provinces were not created in accordance with all legal requirements and said population growth had made the formation of additional provinces necessary. Siddiqui urged political forces to begin dialogue beyond political interests and said MQM would support calls for new provinces wherever they emerged, particularly asserting that the case for new provinces within Sindh was especially strong.

Senior MQM leader Farooq Sattar also said running Pakistan without creating new administrative units had become impossible. He warned that failure to change the existing system could lead to growing unrest in different parts of the country, accusing authorities of repeatedly denying citizens their basic rights. The MQM leaders emphasized that decentralization and transferring authority to the people were essential for strengthening democracy and improving governance.

MQM leader Mustafa Kamal said the existing system was depriving people of their rights and making citizens increasingly dependent on the state. He argued that establishing new administrative units in Sindh would also empower farmers and improve governance. Kamal claimed that Sindh had received around Rs22 trillion over the past 17 years but said local government reforms had not received adequate support. He maintained that establishing administrative units was the only viable way to run Pakistan effectively and said MQM would become part of an emerging movement for administrative restructuring.
