PTI Founder sent back to Adiala jail after medical check-up at Shifa International Hospital

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan was taken from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital for medical assessment and treatment, but jail sources later confirmed that he has been shifted back to his cell.

Strict security arrangements were put in place outside Shifa International Hospital, with a heavy contingent of police deployed around the facility. Arrangements had also been completed at the hospital for Imran Khan’s medical examination and treatment.

Earlier, Imran Khan was taken from Adiala Jail to the hospital under tight security.

His sisters and personal doctors had also reached Adiala Jail. Dr Uzma Khan and Dr Faisal entered the jail through Gate No. 5, while Noreen Niazi remained outside the prison.

Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar had said that the Islamabad administration was responsible for Imran Khan’s transfer to the hospital and was handling the matter.

Prime Minister’s political adviser Rana Sanaullah, however, criticised the decision, saying the relief given to the PTI founder was not in accordance with the law. He referred to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s transfer to Services Hospital, saying the decision in his case was made following medical reports before he subsequently travelled abroad for treatment.

The development follows the Supreme Court’s order directing authorities to transfer Imran Khan from jail to a hospital for treatment and to constitute a medical board for his assessment.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court Registrar’s Office returned the review petition filed against the order for Imran Khan’s hospital transfer after raising certain objections.

The latest development is that Imran Khan has been taken to hospital and subsequently shifted back to his cell at Adiala Jail, according to jail sources.
