24 August, 2026 13:19

Field Marshal Asim Munir has departed for Iran, accompanied by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said. The visit is part of Pakistan’s efforts to promote regional peace and stability.

During the visit, discussions will focus on the peaceful resolution of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Field Marshal Asim Munir will also emphasize efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive and lasting solution to the conflict.

Iran has described its relations with Pakistan as being at one of their best stages, saying bilateral ties between the two countries are steadily improving.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said during a press briefing that the scheduled visit of Pakistan’s army chief to Iran would focus on bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest. He said Iran and Pakistan are currently maintaining close contacts on bilateral cooperation and regional affairs.

Commenting on the ongoing conflict involving Iran, Baghaei said Tehran did not start the war but was defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity. He stressed that Iran would not accept conditions imposed by its adversaries for ending the conflict and said the party that initiated the war must be held accountable for its actions. Baghaei also warned Bulgaria to refrain from cooperating with US action against Iran, saying Tehran remains committed to defending its national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
