ISLAMABAD: The preliminary inquiry report into the PIMS tragedy has been submitted to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, with the report identifying shortcomings at the hospital and recommending immediate action against those responsible.
According to sources, former interior secretary Shahid Khan, who headed the inquiry committee, submitted the report to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif through the office of his adviser, Tauqeer Shah, late at night.
Sources said Tauqeer Shah subsequently forwarded the report to the prime minister and briefed him about its key findings and recommendations.
Members of the inquiry committee have confirmed that the report was sent to the Prime Minister’s Office. The authority to make the report public has been left with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
According to sources, the report has been signed by all members of the inquiry committee. The committee has also determined the causes of the PIMS tragedy and identified those responsible.
The report details the difficulties faced by rescue teams during the emergency operation and recommends action against relevant PIMS staff members who were absent at the time of the incident.
It also contains recommendations aimed at preventing similar incidents in the future. Interviews with PIMS administration officials and doctors, along with statements from fire brigade and rescue personnel, have been included in the report.
Sources said the inquiry also examined the treatment facilities and other services available at PIMS. The report reportedly concluded that the hospital’s facilities and arrangements did not meet international standards.
The committee has recommended immediate action against those found responsible for the shortcomings and failures highlighted in the investigation.
