More evidence has emerged regarding alleged involvement of a group in anti-state and violent activities in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Police spokesperson, law enforcement agencies arrested a man named Abdullah from Rawalakot. Police said the suspect, who belongs to Sudhanoti district, made important disclosures regarding violent incidents targeting state institutions.
Police said Abdullah admitted to the presence of armed individuals at a protest in Daryek, attempts to provoke people, and plans to target law enforcement personnel.
According to police, photographs and videos showing the suspect with armed individuals were recovered from his mobile phone. The material is being forensically examined.
The police spokesperson said the statement and mobile phone evidence would be investigated as part of the case. Police alleged that some individuals were using the cover of public rights to create unrest and disturb peace in Azad Kashmir.
Police further said law enforcement personnel were targeted during violent incidents, while attempts were also allegedly made to target civilians and blame state institutions.
The authorities said peaceful protests would be respected, but attacks on state institutions and threats to the lives and property of civilians would not be allowed.
The police said legal action would be taken against those found involved in violent and anti-state activities, while the safety of citizens would remain a priority.
Analysts said evidence of attacks on security forces and civilians by members of the group had emerged previously. They also raised questions about the reported presence of modern weapons among some individuals and possible external support, allegations that would require further investigation.
