September 1965 War Martyrs Honored as Nation Pays Tribute to Capt Ghulam Murtaza, Maj Amanullah

The nation pays tribute to the martyrs of the September 1965 war. On the third day of the war, Captain Ghulam Murtaza and Major Amanullah embraced martyrdom while fighting bravely against the enemy.

Captain Ghulam Murtaza was assigned to the Armoured Regiment to repair tanks that were damaged on the battlefield.

The armoured unit was given the task of capturing Jaurian in the Chamb sector, with Akhnur as its final objective.

On September 3, 1965, after crossing the Chamb sector, the Pakistani forces began advancing towards Jaurian.

During the advance, Captain Ghulam Murtaza faced strong resistance from enemy infantry and heavy artillery.

The highly motivated Pakistani Armoured Regiment inflicted heavy damage on the enemy artillery.

During the fighting, an enemy shell hit a Pakistani tank, causing it to catch fire.

Captain Ghulam Murtaza, who was in a jeep, immediately moved towards the burning tank. He was hit by a burst of enemy machine-gun fire and seriously wounded.

Unable to survive his injuries, Captain Ghulam Murtaza embraced martyrdom on September 3, 1965.

Major Amanullah, who belonged to the Azad Kashmir Regiment, also played a prominent role in the fighting on September 3.

Leading his company, Major Amanullah attacked the enemy and, after fierce fighting, successfully captured Lalial and Deva.

Major Amanullah continued fighting the enemy bravely and embraced martyrdom during the night between September 3 and 4, 1965.

The sacrifices of Captain Ghulam Murtaza and Major Amanullah will always hold a special place in the history of the September 1965 war. Their names will be remembered with honour for their courage and sacrifice.
