Third Day of September 1965 War: Pakistan Gives Strong Response

The third day of the September 1965 war saw intense fighting as Pakistan’s armed forces, supported by the people, continued to respond to Indian aggression.

Indian Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri made unsuccessful efforts to ease the fear among his people caused by attacks by the Pakistan Air Force.

In the Chamb sector, the Pakistan Army captured around 500 Indian soldiers as prisoners of war and seized 15 enemy tanks along with other weapons and military equipment.

Pakistan Army Commander-in-Chief General Muhammad Musa visited an injured Indian soldier at a field hospital.

Lieutenant Colonel Naseerullah Babar accidentally landed his helicopter at an Indian position in the Bhimber sector of Kashmir. Showing great presence of mind, he used only a pistol to deceive around 30 Indian soldiers and took them prisoner.

The Pakistan Air Force also shot down three Indian aircraft. One aircraft was brought down by Flight Lieutenant Hakimullah near Pasrur airfield. Flight Officer Abbas Mirza successfully landed another Gnat, E1083, at Pasrur airfield.

The third Gnat, also identified as E1083, was being flown by Indian Squadron Leader Brij Pal Singh, who was taken prisoner of war.

In this remarkable battle, the Pakistan armed forces inflicted heavy losses on Indian warplanes and forced them to suffer significant damage.
