Canada Advises Citizens to Avoid Afghanistan Amid Security Concerns
The security situation in Afghanistan remains highly unstable and dangerous under the Taliban, prompting Canada to advise its citizens against travelling to the country.
The Canadian government has issued a travel advisory, warning that the security situation across Afghanistan is extremely unpredictable and dangerous. Canadians already in the country have been advised to move to safer locations and review their security arrangements.
The advisory warns of serious risks of kidnapping, terrorism and arbitrary detention of foreign nationals. It also states that the threat of terrorist attacks remains present across Afghanistan, including in Kabul.
According to the Canadian government, terrorist groups remain active in Afghanistan and could target foreigners, journalists and other civilians.
International experts say the Taliban continue to face criticism over their failure to meet international commitments, which has contributed to growing distance between the regime and the international community.
The United States, United Kingdom and several other countries have also issued strict travel warnings for Afghanistan.
