Bipasha Basu Says She Started Bollywood’s Athletic Body Trend

Bipasha Basu has opened up about body image, fitness and ageing after an old clip of Mrunal Thakur making comments about her physique resurfaced online and sparked backlash.

During interview with Elle India, the 47-year-old actress revealed on how Bollywood noticed women’s bodies when she come into the industry. She said actresses in the early 2000s were often likely to have tiny and subtle looks, while she stood out with her tall, athletic and tanned appearance.

“I don’t think women with more muscle tone were very acceptable as actresses. But I think I started the trend, and I started preaching ‘love yourself’ to everyone because I realised it’s not just about looking good. It’s more intrinsic. You need to be healthy,” the Jism actress said.

As per actress said, women with a more muscular body shape were not extensively accepted as actresses at the time. She believes she helped present a more athletic look to Bollywood and stimulated people to concentration on self-love and good health slightly than appearance alone.

According to actress, that the increasing fitness effort pushed many women to exercise frequently and take better care of their health. However, she look into whether people today exercise largely to stay fit or simply to attain a certain look.

Bipasha also talking about ageing, and said she is happier with who she is today than she was in her twenties. She tense that she does not want to feel stressed to look younger and is satisfied of growing older indeed.

Saying, “Ageing is like the biggest sin that you can commit. I believe that I like myself more, the person that I am today, much more than what I used to be in my twenties.

What other people are doing, it’s their call. I don’t judge that. But for me, I’m never going to fall into the pressure of wanting to look younger than what I am. I’m very happy with the way I am growing older, and I’m very proud of my age.”

Her remarks came after an old video reappeared in which Mrunal told her Kumkum Bhagya co-star Arjit Taneja that he should “go marry Bipasha” if he wanted a muscular woman. The remark drew strong criticism online, after which Mrunal apologised on social media.
