Battle of Lahore: The Story of General Niranjan Prasad’s Jeep

The Battle of Lahore became a major episode of the 1965 war between Pakistan and India. The Indian Army launched a night attack with the aim of advancing towards Lahore.

However, its attempts to capture the city failed, leading to growing concern within the Indian high command.

Major General Niranjan Prasad, commander of India’s 15 Infantry Division, reportedly claimed that his brigades were close to Lahore. He was later ordered to visit the frontline and assess the situation.

When he reached the BRB Canal near the Wagah front, Pakistani forces launched an attack. According to the account, the Indian general abandoned his jeep, which carried his star plate and flag, and fled the area.

Pakistani forces reportedly captured the jeep along with maps and battle plans. The jeep associated with Major General Niranjan Prasad is displayed at an army museum as a reminder of the events of the 1965 war.
