September 8: The Day Pakistan Raised Its Flag in Khem Karan

September 8 is remembered as a significant day in the 1965 war, when Pakistani forces captured Khem Karan after intense fighting.

India launched an attack during the night, but Pakistani forces quickly responded and changed the course of the battle within 48 hours.

On the Kasur front, Pakistani tanks advanced against Indian defensive positions. The Pakistan Army’s 1st Armoured Division fought heavy battles against India’s 4 Mountain Division, causing major losses.

According to the account, several Indian units withdrew after suffering heavy casualties, while some troops abandoned tanks and vehicles during their retreat.

The Pakistani forces eventually entered Khem Karan and raised the national flag there.

Khem Karan was one of the largest towns captured by either side during the 1965 war.
