Iran Warns of Forceful Response to Any Attack on Iranian Vessels

09 September, 2026 11:35

TEHRAN: Iran’s military leadership has warned that any aggressive action against Iranian vessels will face a strong response, as Tehran says its surveillance and defensive systems in the Strait of Hormuz remain fully operational.

Chief of General Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces Ali Abdollahi said Iran would not tolerate any attack against its ships.

He warned that if Iranian vessels were targeted, Iranian forces would respond by striking US military bases in the region.

Meanwhile, IRGC spokesman Brigadier General Hossein Mohebbi expressed confidence in Iran’s surveillance and defensive capabilities around the Strait of Hormuz.

Mohebbi said no advanced technology could evade Iran’s surveillance network and maintained that Iranian monitoring systems across the strategic waterway were fully active.

He said the Persian Gulf remained under the control of what he described as Iran’s highly capable young specialists.

The IRGC spokesman also issued a warning to Washington, saying the United States should remain confined to the shores of Cuba, a reference to the failed Bay of Pigs invasion.

The Iranian warnings come as tensions between Tehran and Washington continue to escalate around the Strait of Hormuz.

The situation has become increasingly tense following recent US actions against Iranian oil tankers and subsequent Iranian retaliatory strikes against American targets in the region.

Iran has repeatedly warned that attacks against its commercial or military vessels could trigger a broader response against US military infrastructure.

The Strait of Hormuz remains at the centre of the confrontation because of its strategic importance to global energy supplies and maritime trade.

Iran’s latest warnings suggest that Tehran is determined to maintain close surveillance over shipping activity in the waterway and respond to what it considers threats against Iranian vessels.

With both sides maintaining a heightened military posture, any further incident involving Iranian ships, US naval forces or commercial tankers could lead to another dangerous escalation across the Gulf.
