Vessel Hit by Unknown Projectile in Strait of Hormuz, UKMTO Says

A vessel has been struck by an “unknown projectile” while sailing through the Strait of Hormuz, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO). The incident was reported early on Sunday, adding to growing concerns over the safety of ships using the important waterway.

UKMTO said the condition of the crew was not immediately known. It also said there was no immediate information about the extent of damage to the vessel or any possible impact on the environment. Unlike several previous incidents, the agency did not provide the exact location of the attack. This has left it unclear whether the vessel was hit near Oman or closer to the Iranian coast.

It also remains unclear who was behind the incident. No group or country has so far been identified as responsible for the attack. The latest incident comes as Iran continues to disrupt shipping through the Strait of Hormuz through threats and attacks targeting vessels.
