Over 830,000 Palestinian Children Return to West Bank Schools Amid Education Crisis

According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), More than 830,000 boys and girls from Palestine have resumed their education across the occupied West Bank this week, while thousands are still struggling to continue to attending school.

Over 4,000 students returning students were earlier enforced to leave their homes in refugee camps in the northern West Bank. As per OCHA statement, these children are still unable to back to their homes, creating further difficulties in continuing their education.

Education in occupied East Jerusalem is also being affected by ongoing challenges. OCHA reported that Six UNRWA schools have been closed by Israeli authorities, leaving many students without access to their usual schools.

The situation is also difficult in Area C of the West Bank, where 10 schools serving more than 360 students remain abandoned. OCHA said the schools were left empty after the communities they served were displaced because of repeated settler attacks and related restrictions on movement and access.

Dozens of schools are also at risk of being closed or demolished, raising further concerns about education. 84 schools are currently under awaiting demolition or stop-work instructions. These trials could put the education of nearly 13,000 students at risk, according to OCHA.

Along with these hurdles, hundreds of thousands of Palestinian children have resumed education. However, the constant shift of students, school shutting and threats against educational services are generating ambiguity for many families.

OCHA has emphasized the condition as a major worry for children across the West Bank. For many students, returning to school is an essential step toward regular life, but current transposition and restraints continue to shake their access to education.
