Iran Calls on UN for Immediate Legal Action Over Israeli Attacks in Lebanon

14 September, 2026 10:33

TEHRAN: Iran’s High Council for Human Rights has called on the United Nations to take immediate legal and protective measures over what it described as Israeli violations during ongoing attacks on Lebanon.

In a statement, the Iranian human rights body urged the UN to strengthen measures to protect civilians in Lebanon, document reported Israeli violations and pursue legal action over alleged crimes committed during the attacks.

The council said recent Israeli attacks had killed and wounded dozens of civilians, including women and children.

It also expressed concern over what it described as the international community’s failure to take effective measures to prevent further civilian casualties.

Iran Raises International Humanitarian Law Concerns

The Iranian body said attacks that target civilians violate fundamental human rights, particularly the rights to life, security and human dignity.

It further argued that Israeli bombardments in Lebanon raise concerns under international humanitarian law, including the principles requiring parties to distinguish between military and civilian targets and to ensure that the use of force remains proportionate.

According to the statement, civilians must be protected during armed conflicts and alleged violations should be independently documented and investigated.

Call for UN Action

Iran urged the United Nations and relevant international mechanisms to take immediate steps to strengthen civilian protection and establish accountability for reported violations.

The statement called for the documentation of incidents involving civilian casualties and other alleged violations so that responsibility can be assessed through appropriate legal mechanisms.

Iran said the international community should not allow continued attacks on civilian populations to go without scrutiny and called for stronger international action to protect civilians in Lebanon.

The Iranian statement comes amid continuing military tensions in the region and growing international concern over the impact of Israeli attacks on Lebanese civilians and infrastructure.
