PM Shehbaz Sharif Condemns Drone Attack Attempt Near Makkah

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has condemned the reported attempt to target the holy city of Makkah with a drone, reaffirming Pakistan’s solidarity with Saudi Arabia.

In a statement, the prime minister said Pakistan stands shoulder to shoulder with Saudi Arabia and considers the protection of the holy sites a responsibility that every Pakistani holds close to heart.

He said the reported incident had caused concern and distress among the Pakistani people, describing it as a provocative development.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the courage and professionalism of the Saudi Armed Forces, saying they responded promptly to the reported threat.

He said Saudi forces had confronted the situation with swift and courageous action and appreciated their role in protecting the Kingdom’s security and the holy sites.

The prime minister said the security of Makkah and other sacred places carries particular importance for Muslims around the world.

Shehbaz Sharif urged all parties to exercise restraint, warning that the region had already paid a heavy price because of prolonged conflicts and tensions.

He stressed that further escalation would create additional risks for regional peace and security.

According to the prime minister, dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path toward lasting peace.

He called for greater diplomatic engagement to reduce tensions and prevent further escalation in the region.

The prime minister reiterated Pakistan’s support for Saudi Arabia’s security, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He said Pakistan would continue to stand with the Kingdom during challenging times and expressed solidarity with the Saudi people.

The statement came after Saudi authorities reported that air defences had intercepted a drone south of Makkah before it entered restricted airspace around the holy city. The Houthi militia has denied targeting Makkah.
