Mir Raza Judicial Commission Issues Written Order for September 15 Proceedings

KARACHI: The judicial commission investigating the Mir Raza case has issued a written order covering its proceedings on September 15 and scheduled its next hearing for September 17.

The commission has summoned Ferozabad police station Investigation Officer Inspector Shabbir Laghari and directed him to appear before the commission at 11am on September 17.

According to the written order, the commission recorded the statements of Shehryar Ali, Inspector Muhammad Ali, Asad Ali Butt and Head Constable Zeeshan Haider during the September 15 proceedings.

The statement of witness Muhammad Hassan Khan Tanoli, who is currently in Australia, was also recorded through Zoom.

The commission directed witness Umair Khan to appear before it on September 17.

During the proceedings, Ahmed Hassan Sheikh, who was present at the hearing, submitted an explanation before the commission.

Ahmed Hassan Sheikh said Ahmed and Usman were two separate individuals and stated that he also had an investment in Waflix.

According to his explanation, information obtained from an Apple Watch included the name “Ahmed Usman” in a list of investors.

The commission directed Usman Bozai and Ahmed Hassan Sheikh to appear on September 17 to record their statements.

The lawyer representing Mir Raza’s family, Jibran Nasir, also raised the issue of an unidentified phone call received by Mir Raza’s father.

According to Jibran Nasir, the caller introduced himself as a brigadier from the Pakistan Army’s V Corps and spoke in support of the SHO of Ferozabad police station.

The identity of the caller and the circumstances surrounding the call have not been independently established.

The commission also issued a warning to Ferozabad SHO Adeel Afzal.

The commission directed the police officer to refrain from attempting to secure support or influence in his favour during the proceedings.

It told the SHO not to seek backing for his position and instructed him to allow the judicial process to proceed without such efforts.

The judicial commission will continue proceedings on September 17, when the investigation officer, witnesses and other individuals directed to appear are expected to record their statements.

The commission is examining witness accounts, police investigations, financial information and other evidence to establish the circumstances surrounding Mir Raza’s death.
