Mustafa Kamal Calls for New Administrative Units for Pakistan’s Survival

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader and Federal Minister Mustafa Kamal has said the creation of new administrative units is essential for Pakistan’s survival and development.

Addressing a public mobilisation campaign organised by the MQM in Korangi, Kamal said establishing new provinces on an administrative basis had become an important requirement.

He said that after six weeks, people speaking different languages would come out on Shahrah-e-Faisal demanding separate administrative units.

Kamal criticised the Sindh government, alleging that what he described as “oppressive and prejudiced rulers” were unwilling to recognise the rights and identity of Karachi’s residents.

The federal minister also alleged that fake domiciles were being issued under the urban quota, depriving young people in Karachi of employment opportunities.

He claimed that despite having educated young people in the city, they had not been provided even basic government employment opportunities over the past 18 years.

Kamal said Sindh had received around Rs22 trillion over the past 18 years and questioned how the funds had been utilised.

He further alleged that the amount could have been sufficient to transform Sindh multiple times if it had been spent effectively.

The MQM leader accused Sindh’s political leadership of corruption and alleged that public funds had been used to acquire properties in Dubai, London and the United States.

Kamal’s remarks come as the debate over administrative restructuring and the creation of new provinces continues in Pakistan, particularly in relation to governance, representation, population growth and the distribution of resources.
