Iran Still in State of War, Abbas Araghchi Says

TEHRAN: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that Iran remains in a state of war, with conditions created by the conflict continuing even after the fighting.

Araghchi criticised Western and European countries for what he described as their silence over the situations in Palestine, Gaza, Lebanon and Iran.

He also questioned Western governments’ focus on human rights, saying they raise the issue when an individual in Iran faces a problem while remaining silent over wider regional crises.

Araghchi Questions UN’s Role

The Iranian foreign minister said the United Nations had failed to maintain global peace and security, arguing that confidence in the international organisation had been lost.

He called for reforms to the UN, saying its restoration was necessary to address the current international challenges.

Pezeshkian to Address UN General Assembly

Araghchi said Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian would address the UN General Assembly and hold bilateral meetings with leaders of several countries during his visit to New York.

The Iranian president is also scheduled to give interviews to various international media organisations, according to Araghchi.

He said Iran’s primary objective at the global forum would be to defend the rights, interests and position of the Iranian people on the international stage.
